Sharps "Old Reliable" Buffalo Rifle 45-70 Government Caliber

This is a a highly desirable Sharps "Old Reliable" Buffalo Rifle in 45-70 government caliber. The heavy 30-inch octagonal barrel is stamped on the top flat near the frame with CAL 45 2 ½ and with the desirable Sharps legend "OLD RELIABLE SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN". The lock is stamped "C. SHARPS PAT / OCT 5TH 1852". The barrel and frame have matching serial numbers 99xxx. The rifle has double set triggers, a select walnut buttstock, finely checkered at the wrist, a Schnabel fore end and a steel carbine style butt plate. A modifed silver coin is the foresight blade. The rifle condition rates excellent with much blue blending to extensive plumb. There are two small patches of light pitting, ½-inch on the receiver and barrel. The wood has very minimal bruises and scratches The action is crisp and the bore is fine with great rifling. This is a wonderful Sharps in a buffalo caliber and not the usual target rifle. A factory letter from Dr. Moore may well dramatically increase the value of this Sharps.
