In the late 1960’s Colt experimented with a 26mm cannon which could be mounted on a jeep or helicopter and not shake the vehicle apart because it evened off its recoil into one constant push. It’s inventor, Russ Robinson of Salvo Squeeze Bore fame, called it his Constant Reaction Gun and designed the round in 26mm (as opposed to the more conventional 25mm) so he could get another ring of flechettes into the case mouth. Colt shortened the name to CR-26 and had 5+ inch long experimental greenish lacquered steel cases made at Altdorf, the Swiss government ammunition factory, which Colt loaded with various projectiles for testing. The primer is in a separate piece which screws into the base. The ammo was supposedly all destroyed, but here from a former Colt engineer we have a slightly corroded but surviving multi-piece fired case headstamped “C 01 A 69” with copies of Colt’s projected loading data. A fasciinating piece of experimental Colt ordnance for the US military or ammunition collector. Thanks for looking, and please email us with any questions PRIOR to bidding. Winning bidder pays $7.00 shipping (Priority mail, insured). USPS money order assures next day shipping; personal checks are accepted, but must clear. Email us by clicking on the green “ask seller a question" above if you’d like to get our current list of Colt memorabilia, Colt Experimental Ammunition or Worldwide .223 (5.56mm) single specimens (mostly Viet Nam era and earlier).
