This is a Colt Army Model 1860 cap & ball .44-caliber single-action revolver. This Civil War era workhorse features an 8” barrel, an under-barrel loading lever, a 6-shot cylinder, and has the recoil shields and butt machined for mounting a shoulder stock. The wooden grips are chipped and worn as shown, and the right grip has a very faint oval cartouche on the lower side. The pistol has matching numbers and functions, with a working half-cock position and advancing the cylinder as the hammer is cocked - though there is quite a bit of play in the cylinder and shouldn’t be fired until corrected and cleared by a gunsmith. The pistol has aged to a brown patina with some surface rust and pitting as shown. The bore has faint rifling, and the bore & chambers have surface rust. The charging lever moves freely and locks into place with the lever’s spring tension. A rare example of the most well-known Civil War revolver. 1502059-2
