The affordable Akkar Churchill 812 Field over/under superposed 12-gauge shotgun features a cut-down, low-profile engraved steel receiver. Pretty much everything else is standard walnut. Additionally, the 812 Field features a mechanical trigger, auto ejectors, an auto safety a red tube fiber optic atop the muzzle and finely detailed matte checkering on both the forearm and grip.
With that summary, let’s dive into this interesting gun’s details. First, Akkar is based in exotic Istanbul, Turkey! Turkey has NATO’s second largest military (after the USA’s), and is noted for producing a wide variety of arms. Akkar also uses the Churchill name for its side-by-side shotguns. Akkar also makes Mammut (Mammoth) triple barrel shotguns!
The Akkar Churchill 812 Field is one of a family of four models that also includes the 820, 828 and 836 Field guns. So the four models represent 12-gauge, 20-gauge, 28-gauge and .410 bore (aka 36-gauage) respectively. The last three are all 26” barrels with overall lengths that are 45” for the 20-gauge and 45.2” for the 28-gauge and .410 bore. This trio is otherwise the same as the standard 812.
The 812 model comes with three extended MC-5 chokes. It has a 28” long matte blued barrel and the gun’s overall length is 44.9” while weight is 6.8 pounds. The gun’s length of pull is 14.37" while drop at comb is 1.38" and drop at heel is 2.16". There are also 26” and 30” barrel versions.
The upper barrel is crowned by a vent rib along its length. Atop it is a fiber optic front sight. The silver nitrided receiver is made of steel. The walnut shows beautiful and luxury enhancing burls, lines and streaks. The forearm is beautifully sculpted with tumblehome flanks and checkering not only on the sides, but on the bottom too. But whoever designed this gun also paid special attention to the aesthetics, breaking the checkering into three separate eye-pleasing sections. Naturally, this checkering is matched by the checkering on the two sides of the grip. At back is a rubber recoil pad.
