The Alex Pro Firearms 22-250 Varmint Gray is a 22-250 Field caliber AR-type semi-automatic made in Alexandria, Minnesota. As the name implies, the gun’s preponderant color is a matte gray that coats the upper and lower receiver and the handguard. The barrel’s stainless steel color compliments the matte gray. Essentially all else such as the different trim parts and fasteners, muzzle brake, trigger, grip and butt stock is matte black.

The gun uses a LR-308 heat-treated nickel boron plated bolt carrier group that like all other Alex Pro components is Made in USA and machined to mil-spec quality and standards to ensure the highest manufacturing levels.

The 22-250 is powered by a low profile rifle-length gas system. But the gun’s real focal point is underneath it. That’s its 20” long stainless steel barrel. It has a medium light contour and is beautifully fluted. The barrel’s twist ratio is 1 to 14” and in front is an A2 birdcage muzzle brake. Surrounding the barrel is a 15.5” APF free-floating handguard.

The matte gray handguard has the typical raised roof octagonal cross-section profile and MLOK slots in all eight directions. Atop the roof is a long gray Picatinny rail that continues nearly seamlessly over the upper receiver. The 22-250 also comes with a 2” accessory Picatinny rail that can be attached pretty much anywhere on the handguard.

At bottom center, the trigger is a single-stage type that Alex Pro Firearms also uses on other models.

The grip is a MAGPUL MOE that has aggressive texturing on the sides and horizontal grip serrations at front and back. The grip includes an integrated beavertail for increased comfort and has a hidden storage compartment accessed from its bottom.

The gun is literally backed up by a skeletonized Luth-AR MBA-2 butt stock. The versatile MBA-2 is 10 3/8” long and is made of glass-filled nylon. This is a base version of the MBA-1 fully-adjustable buttstock. The MBA-2 does not permits adjustment of cheek riser height and length-of-pull, but it is modular so that those components can be added later if needed. The benefit is that the MBA-2 costs about 70% less than the MBA-1, but still offers excellent ergonomics and ultra-modern looks. Moreover, the Luth-AR MBA-2 has multiple sling attachment points and even molded pockets for QD cups. It only weighs .7 pounds, so it helps enhance the portability of any gun it’s mated to.

With all this, the gun comes in a 9.0 pounds.
