Alex Pro Firearms has been in business since 2014. Since then, they’ve specialized largely in making AR-type guns. The Alex Pro Firearms DMR is a high-precision “Designated Marksman Rifle” (hence DMR).
The Alex Pro Firearms DMR is a 223 Wylde caliber AR-type semi-automatic made in Alexandria, Minnesota. Except the elegant stainless steel barrel and the flat blade trigger, all else such as the different trim parts and fasteners, upper and lower receiver, muzzle brake, trigger, grip and butt stock is matte black.
The gun uses an M16 heat-treated nickel boron plated bolt carrier group that like all other Alex Pro components is Made in USA and machined to mil-spec quality and standards to ensure the highest manufacturing levels.
The DMR rifle is powered by a low profile rifle-length gas system. But the gun’s real focal point is underneath it. And that’s its 18” long barrel made of 416 stainless steel bar stock. This type of stainless steel is very affordable and easy to work with. Best of all, it gains strength as it is heated. The barrel has a medium contour and is beautifully fluted and has a 1 to 8” twist. In front is a two-chamber APF Butcher 16 muzzle brake that’s made in-house.
Surrounding the barrel is a 15.5” APF free-floating matte black handguard. It has the typical raised roof octagonal cross-section profile and MLOK slots in all eight directions. Atop the roof is a long gray Picatinny rail that continues nearly seamlessly over the upper receiver. Moreover, the DMR has a 2” accessory Picatinny rail one can attach all around the handguard.
The gun uses a CMC single-stage flat blade drop-in trigger with a refined 3.5 pounds of pull pressure. The trigger is made in Texas using 8620 alloy steel and S7 tool steel. It’s a precision instrument that has no creep and an ultra-clean break. The pull is factory-set and non-adjustable.
In back, the DMR has a MAGPUL ACS 6-position mil-spec standard stock with six settings. It’s a cleverly designed component, but then again, coming from MAGPUL, that’s not a surprise. For starters, it has a sloping cheek weld. In the center, it has an anti-snag protected release lever. And between the lever and the .3” thick anti-slip rubber butt pad, it has a small water-resistant storage compartment.
The MAGPUL ACS has a pair of battery storage tubes near the top that bring the stock’s width to 2.5”. It also features sling mounts and a 1” long sling loop. Length of pull varies from 11.6” to 14.9” (and thus provides a 3.3” range). The component’s weight is 14.1 ounces, or a bit under a pound.
The gun features a polymer ERGO Suregrip. It uses the same aggressive Rhino Hide texturing for grip sides and front and back. The grip includes an integrated beavertail.
With all this, the gun weighs 7.8 pounds. The Alex Pro Firearms DMR rifle is made at the company’s headquarters and manufacturing center in Alexandria, Minnesota.
