American Tactical Road Agent 12-gauge side-by-side stagecoach gun joins ATI’s lineup of Cavalry over/under shotguns! Stagecoaches aren’t common anymore. Moreover, most people don’t have someone sitting shotgun in any literal sense. So what’s the target for these guns? At least one of them is Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) trick shooting. The Road Agent meets the specifications.

This gun has side-by-side dual external hammers. The safety puts the gun in “safe” mode. Very intelligently, the designers ensured that decocking also puts it in safe mode and drops both hammers without firing the gun. Also breaking the barrel autococks both hammers. Load the gun, and close it, and it’s immediately ready to shoot without any safeties to disengage or anything else.

The Road Agent features a medium length 18.5" carbon steel barrel with black aluminum finish, aluminum receiver, intricate scroll engraving with an elegant “etched in stone” look and hand finished walnut stock and forearm. The Road Agent also incorporates double triggers to match its classic external hammer design, so you can shoot both barrels at once!

The 18.5” barrel is a length ATI likes using on its guns. This length provides a good combination of portability and maneuverability without sacrificing too much muzzle pressure or accuracy. But going to 18” and below then puts a gun in SBS (short-barreled shotgun) or the colloquial “sawed off shotgun” categorization and various regulations.

The Road Agent’s overall length is 35.4” and unloaded weight is a spritely 5.3 pounds. The gun uses extractors rather than ejectors, which is an SASS requirement for side-by-side guns. With extractors, spent casings stay in the gun but are in easy reach. With ejectors, the casings fling free. This might be more convenient unless they hit you when they come out and/or if you don’t want to have to look for them. So each has its benefits.

In front is a simple bead sight. The stock is hand-fitted Turkish walnut with a nice oil finish.

Other than barrel length, etc., other dimensions include the length of pull, which is 14.75”. Drop at comb is 1.75”, which slopes down to the drop at heel that’s 2.25”. The gun’s designers thoughtfully had both the forend and stock checkered for improved grip. And it looks great too.
