Armscor/Rock Island Armory rightfully pitches itself as a value brand. Its expansive lineup offers great value regardless of product. Naturally, its budget M1911-A GI family embodies this outlook too. This is a set of three different sizes of M1911s: the compact CS, medium MS and full-size FS guns.

Naturally, the GIs share certain general characteristics except where further detailed below. They feature button rifled barrels and use tough AISI 4140 alloy steel for both the slide and frame. And while these are value guns, they are hand-fitted for assembly and fit, and finish is done to tight tolerances. The guns feature fixed (meaning non-adjustable) low-profile front and fixed shallow notch rear sights.

The guns have the same rugged matte black Parkerized finish that Armscor likes to use on so many of its guns. The barrel vaulted slides have a lowered and beveled ejection port and vertical slide serrations only at back. In back is a solid hammer, a downturned medium length beavertail and underneath it, a grip safety.

The GI family of 1911s feature a solid curved trigger that has a factory-set 4 to 6 pound trigger pull weight. The guns have a left hand thumb safety, left hand slide release and left hand circular magazine release. And finally, they have smooth wooden grips fastened by two flat-head screws. And all the barrels have a 1 to 16” twist. The trigger guard is a standard oval that leads to the grip.

As of this writing, there are nine GI M1911s in production:

The smallest is the GI Standard CS 45 ACP. It has a 3.5” barrel, 7.25” overall length, 5.125” height and weighs 2.16 pounds unloaded. The single-stack gun has a 7-round magazine and thus a 7+1 capacity.

Stepping up to the medium-sized MS guns is a class of just one: the GI Standard CS 45 ACP. It has a 4.25” barrel, 8.0” overall length, 5.5” height and weighs 2.36 pounds unloaded. The extra height allows room for an 8-round single-stack magazine and thus increases capacity to 8+1.

The remaining guns are all the full-size FS M1911 GIs.

First is the GI Standard FS 45 ACP, which has a 5.0” barrel and an 8.56” overall length. The height is the same 5.5” as the medium-size gun, thus capacity is also the same 8+1.

GI Standard FS 45 ACP Nickel is the same, except it has a bright glossy nickel finish for the slide, frame, trigger and all other parts except the wood grips and the magazine. A nice touch is how even the flat-head screws are nickel-finished.

These last two guns have .38 Super counterparts. They are the GI Standard FS 38 Super and GI Standard FS 38 Super. Except the .38 Super caliber has 9-round magazines and thus 9+1 capacity, they are the same as their 45 ACP siblings. There is also a 9+1 capacity GI Standard FS 9 mm chambered for 9 mm.

The GI Standard CS 45 ACP Threaded has a threaded suppressor ready barrel and black rubber grips that are punctuated by the Armscor logo.

The last of the lineup is the GI Standard FS HC 45 ACP. HC stands for high-capacity. The gun comes standard with a 10-round magazine, which seems a bit of an odd choice, but a 14-round magazine is also available.
