The Auto Ordnance 1911 pistols are Made in USA M1911 semi-automatics you can get in either 7+1 capacity .45 ACP or 9+1 capacity 9mm. Each single action only (SAO) gun sports a full-size 5.0” barrel, 8.6” overall lengths and weighs 2.3 to 2.4 pounds. The BKO prefix in these guns denotes they are part of the BKO-series; W denotes wooden grips. The 9mm variants end with “9”. Thus, the models include 1911BKO, 1911BKOW, 1911BKO9 and 1911BKOW9.

No matter which you get, it’s all black. But all the models have pretty much everything you’d expect an M1911 to have except maybe the age-related worries of an original one. This means you have a barrel-vaulted slide with a clean front but vertical slide serrations in back. The sights are intuitively simple and classic. You have a blade sight in front and a dovetailed drift adjustable sight in back. There is a manual thumb safety and slide catch on the left and so on.

Also, for safety, you have a firing pin block, aforementioned thumb safety and a grip safety. The firing pin block is a passive safety. Unless the trigger is pulled, it prevents the firing pin from moving forward to fire the gun such as if it is accidentally dropped.

Except the grips, the gun is matte black. Thus, the slide, barrel and frame are all matte black. The side grips aren’t wood but decent dark brown plastic with diamond texturing. They’re fastened by flat-head screws at top and bottom, but they lack the double-diamond surrounds of the original guns.

Note that you can also get real wood grips on the 1911BKOW model. They’re quite beautiful because they have the variety of wood colors. They also include the large “U.S.” letters in a center medallion and the famed large diamond (arrowhead, really) screw surrounds.

The slide, disconnector and sear are carbon steel machined from solid bar stock. These are made and then heat treated for extreme long-term durability. The frame is carbon steel too!

Other tactile surfaces abound. Thus, the slide catch, thumb safety, have serrations. The circular magazine release has a classic tight waffle pattern.

In back you have medium beavertail, and the hammer is a small extended thumb that’s exactly where you’d expect it. At the bottom is a grip safety, curved palmswell, solid trigger in a racetrack oval trigger guard and a lanyard loop. The magazines slam flat into the non-flared magwell.
