The 9mm and .45 Auto Brugger & Thomet B&T Station Six is remarkable in its tube on a grip silhouette, architecture and more. This all matte black single action is the essence of minimalist engineering with nothing unnecessary in ornamentation or weight. B&T credits the British World War II-era Welrod pistol for its design inspiration and origins. This covert gun was developed by Station IX in Welwyn Garden City 20 miles north of London and then distributed for use to British SOE, French Resistance and American OSS personnel.

B&T also traces Station Six to its own VP9. In fact, the Station Six is essentially a modernized version of the same, the differences with it being almost imperceptible to the naked eye.

The gun has very few parts: just 48 total not counting the magazine. The main components are the receiver, bolt, barrel, silencer, magazine well and magazine. The silencer, receiver and two-lug bolt are classically circular in cross section. The barrel is hidden inside. The silencer has a series of rubber baffles that each bullet passes through, wearing the baffles a bit each time. Thus B&T recommends they be replaced after about 10 shots.

The front sight is Torx-attached to the receiver while the rear one is dovetailed into place. All around you’ll see countersunk screws or flat-head ones. The totality is impressively neat.

The magazine well is half the height you’d expect is the top half of what forms the grip. Six Torx screws anchor it to the receiver. The magazine, which has counting holes, includes the bottom half of what makes the grip. Slam it up into the magazine well, and the grip is complete. Both top (magazine well) and bottom (magazine) have matching horizontal serrations. At back you have a small grip safety. The trigger sits in a very light trigger guard.

Spent casings don’t eject but await extraction when the serrated round-knob bolt is rotated open. One can then invert the gun to let them fall into the other hand. The barrel is 5.12” long.

Brügger & Thomet, a Swiss company based in historical Thun, 20 miles southeast of Bern. These guns are Made in Switzerland.
