The Bearman Industries CB22 is a 2-round .22 WMR Big Bore Derringer built around 2.75” superposed barrels. Overall length is 4.65”, and the gun tips the scales at about 14 ounces. This gun was formerly the Cobra CB22, but Bearman bought Cobra after it went out of business and resumed production. The Bearman version was virtually identical other than the Bearman markings in lieu of the Cobra ones.

So back to the CB22. It’s a cheap, minimalist, right handgun noted for its very heavy hammer pull and heavy trigger pull. It has an alloy frame. Depending on model, it gets either a matte black finish or gleaming satin nickel finish. Both look good. Either way, the Derringer has fixed sights on top and synthetic grips. The style is a mass of curves. The grip frame is a comma shape. The hammer is one too. Even the trigger guard is a stylized curve.

Loading is easy. Pivot the right-side thumb lever, and the gun opens up upside down since the hinge point is at the tang. That’s it. Then you’re ready to go!

Derringers have their origins in guns by Henry Deringer. Note the spelling with one “r”. When John Wilkes Booth infamously assassinated Abraham Lincoln with one, contemporary newspapers incorrectly named the gun with the double-R “Derringer” that has stuck since.
