The Beretta 21A Bobcat Covert is a .22LR semi-auto blowback pocket pistol built around a 2.9” barrel and 1/2”x28 TPI muzzle threads. This double-action/single-action (DA/SA) semi-automatic has a 7+1 capacity (7 in the magazine and one loaded directly in the chamber). The dimensions are ultra-compact, and tipping the scales at 11.5 ounces, the weight is leafy, at least as far as guns go.

If it seems Beretta has been around eons, it’s because it has! In fact, started operations in 1526, five centuries ago. And that’s loads of time to learn to engineer engaging and fascinating products.

And though this is a little thing, it has some fascinating, rich, features including a tip-up barrel that’s forged. The tip-up barrel makes for easy loading and unloading of a round in the chamber or simply verifying if there is one already in it. Additionally, the 21A Bobcat Covert has solid steel bar-stock starting points for slides and machine forged aluminum frames. The smaller parts are generally high strength hardened steel.

The 21A Bobcat has been in production for decades, but it seems timeless and destined to remain in production for quite a while. This gun has only one standard configuration, and that’s black with wood grips. More specifically, the slide and barrel are blued while the frame is matte black anodized. The other smaller parts such as the magazine, trigger guard, trigger and hammer are matte black.

The wood looks great and is dark Walnut. It’s heavily contoured on top and then it’s nicely hatched on the bottom. The contoured portions feature a nicely done Beretta triple arrow, triple circle logo.

This covert 21A has an inertia firing pin, a manual thumb safety that reveals a red warning dot when it’s in the “fire” mode, a very thin trigger guard and a magazine release that’s at the bottom of the grip. The barrel lever latch is above the trigger’s rear. Like other tactile action parts, it’s serrated. The lever releases the tip-up barrel, which tips up from a pivot point below the muzzle to reveal the chamber.

The gun is 4.9” overall. It has fixed open sights and ships standard with a sturdy 7-round single-stack magazine that’s made of steel. What might surprise some people is these Berettas are Made in USA rather than in the company’s Gardone Val Trompia Italian homeland in the stunningly beautiful northern lakes region.
