Bergara’s Premier Approach is a medium weight hunting rifle whose standout features are its eight caliber options, its barrel and its Grayboe Monte Carlo-style stock. Calibers include .22-250 (with a 1:9” twist ratio), 7mm Remington Magnum (1:9.5”), 6.5 Creedmore (1:8”), 6.5 PRC (1:8”), .308 Winchester (1:10”), .300 Winchester Magnum (1:10”), .300 PRC (1:9”) and .28 Nosler (1:9”). The gun has a sub-MOA guarantee using factory match-grade ammo. The stock is made from a premium solid homogeneous fiberglass epoxy. Pre-2020, the Approach featured detachable box magazines, but starting 2020, the design was re-engineered with hinged floor plates.

Approach rifles are about 1.8 pounds lighter than the very similar Bergara Ridgeback for the same calibers and matching barrel lengths. The difference is the Ridgeback’s fully adjustable Grayboe tactical stock with M-LOK slots along the forend. It’s more stable and versatile but costs and weighs more. Okay, back to the Approach.

The 4-round capacity 6.5 Creedmore and .22-250 Remington along with the 2-round 6.5 PRC have 24” long barrels, measure 43.5” and weigh 8.4 pounds.

The 3-round 7mm Remington Magnum and 2-round .300 PRC also have 24” barrels. But they measure 44” and weigh 8.5 pounds.

Finally, the 3-round .300 Winchester Magnum and 2-round capacity .28 Nosler carry 26” barrels, measures 46” overall and weighs 8.6 pounds.

The Approach slots into Bergara’s Premier Series. The Premiers fit between Bergara’s already impressive stock rifles and its supreme Custom Series. Premiers receive high-end premium components such as the lever manual safety that are often in the Custom Series but enjoy the benefits of mass production, lower cost, etc. thanks to greater efficiencies of scale.

Each caliber barrel is stainless-steel with a Graphite Black Cerakote and a #5.5 barrel taper. Moreover, each has a 5/8-24? threaded radial ported Omni muzzle brake Bergara says reduces felt recoil by up to 35 percent.

The one-piece 416 stainless-steel Bergara Premier action has two-lugs for speedy, secure lockups and a sliding plate extractor, a separate floating bolt head. The oversize conical bolt knob provides extra grasp compared to spherical ones and is Cerakoted for durability. Nonetheless it’s the bolt body’s spiral fluting that is most stunning. Additionally, the bolt stop and quarter-turn to remove bolt shroud are Nitrided for self-lubrication and durability. It also has a spring-loaded sliding plate extractor. The bolt gas shield remains fixed in place instead of rotating with the bolt. This keeps gases from flaring toward the shooter’s face when there’s an ammo failure.

The gun features a TriggerTech Frictionless Release Technology trigger that’s externally adjustable. There is a nice safety at back. What’s clever is it is integrated with the manual safety lever located by the bolt rear on the receiver’s right side. Pull back, and it’s in “safe” position. Push forward to ready in the “fire” position. But you can still maneuver the bolt in either position or easily unload the gun in safe position.

The Grayboe stock’s hand- splatter painted Monte Carlo stock’s is pillar bedded with aluminum pillars molded directly into the stock. Like the gun itself, the 100 percent fiberglass stock is also Made in USA. It features a Monte Carlo cheek piece, integrated QD flush cup sling mounts on the left of both the forend and buttstock and a trio of studs along the bottom so you can mount a sling and a bipod.
