The Black Rain Crypt is an AR-type direct impingement semi-automatic rifle that available in .223 REM/5.56 NATO or .300 AAC Blackout in either right-hand or left-hand build configurations. Each also has three macabre color choices: black skulls, green skulls or red skulls. These “camouflage” finish options swathe the upper and lower receivers and the handguard.
The Crypt’s general formula is fairly common: take an in-house designed and upper and lower receiver, handguard and barrel and mate them to MAGPUL peripherals. The actual details follow.
The forged aluminum receivers are anodized for durability. The bolt carrier group is coated using a salt nitride bath. In front is a low-profile non-adjustable carbine-length gas block.
Overall length is 34”, and the gun weighs 7 pounds 8 ounces. The barrel is made of 4150 chrome moly. It’s 16” long and fronted by an A2 birdcage flash hider. It hides partially in a 12” long, 1.75” interior diameter M-LOK hybrid handguard that has a matte black anodized finish.
The handguard has six QD attachment points and integrated/machined Picatinny rails at 3, 9 and 12 o’clock and M-LOK slots at 6 o’clock. Its two flanks are etched with BLACK RAIN in prominent letters. The handguard has an eye-catching diagonal triangular pattern latticework ribbing on the four long diagonal surfaces.
The trigger guard’s ventral surface is a straight bridge in between the flared magwell in front of it and the MAGPUL MOE grip behind. Inside is a standard curved GI trigger. It has little play and breaks cleanly.
Below the gun is a MAGPUL MOE grip featuring aggressive texturing on the sides and horizontal grip serrations at front and back. The grip includes an integrated beavertail for increased comfort and has a hidden storage compartment accessed from its bottom.
In back is the vaunted MAGPUL MOE triangular skeleton stock. It has a squeeze lever to set it to any one of six different positions.
