The Browning BAR MK3 DBM Wood is a gas-operated semi-automatic 10+1 capacity .308 Winchester carbine. It has an 18” barrel, nice Turkish walnut and integral Picatinny rail scope bases above the ejection port. This fast and accurate short action has a matte black aluminum alloy receiver, a matte black hammer forged fluted barrel and an oil finished Grade II Turkish walnut forend and stock. And the gun’s DBM moniker is short for “detachable box magazine”.

Browning BAR is a high-recognition name. The original BAR was short for Browning Automatic Rifle. It was developed in late World War I as a light machine gun a soldier could fire from the hip while advancing or stabilize atop a bipod for ground fire. “Light” is a relative to a true machine gun since the lightest of those original guns weighed about one and a half times as much as the BAR MK3. And they had longer 24” barrels, shot .30-06, etc.

The DBM Wood is 40 1/8” overall and weighs 7 pounds 6 ounces. Length of pull is 14 3/8". Drop at comb is 5/8" while the drop at heel is 1 1/8". The 10-round detachable box magazine provides plenty of capacity. The Picatinny scope bases have two slots in front and four slots behind. From the receiver there is a straight diagonal tang that drops parallel to rest of the stock. This gives the gun a relatively unique silhouette and makes the receiver seem tall. But it draws a straight line back to the BARs of the past.

So, what else? Plenty! The chamber is chrome plated for durability and reliable feeds. The forend and stock have overmolded grip panels for checkering. The forend is large and tall with a curved Schnabel front for the forend. The stock has a pronounced raised cheek and a good curve at the pistol grip. The stock is shim adjustable for cast on/off and drop at comb. There is 18 LPI (lines per inch) checkering on both the forend and stock. The recoil pad is contoured and polymer, and you get integral steel sling studs in front and back.

The composite trigger guard is an upside-down trapezoid instead of the usual racetrack oval though the trigger guard’s interior is exactly that. The forward edge semi-mirrors the diagonal tang. Inside the trigger guard is a gold-plated Browning alloy trigger.

Well, there you have it. The all-black Browning BAR DBM Stalker is a great compact 18” barrel .308 Winchester semi-automatic with 10+1 capacity.
