The Browning BLR Lightweight Stainless with Pistol Grip is a premium 3+1 and 4+1 detachable box magazine lever-action offering in 243 Win, 6.5 Creedmore, 308 Winchester, 270 Win, 30-06 Springfield and 300 Win Mag and more in 20”, 22” and 24” barrel lengths. The lineup is made by Miroku in Japan. It has superb heritage looks coupled with state-of-the-art manufacturing and quality. Thus, these variants feature blued barrels and receivers coupled to Grade I black walnut.

The 20” barrel length guns are the 223 Rem, 22-250 Rem, 243 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08 Rem, 308 Win, 358 Win, and 450 Mar. These eight have 20” barrels and 40” overall lengths. Length of pull is 13.75” and weight is 6 pounds 8 ounces.

The 22” barrel calibers are 270 WSM, 300 WSM, 270 Win, 30-06 Springfield and 7mm WSM. They are 42” overall. Length of pull is also 13.75” but having longer barrels (and being longer overall), these weigh 6 pounds 12 ounces.

Finally, the 24” barrel calibers are the 7mm Rem Mag and 300 Win Mag. They are 45” overall, have a 14.5” length of pull and weigh about 7 pounds 12 ounces.

The 7mm WSM, 7mm Rem Mag and 300 Win Mag are all 3+1 capacity guns while all the rest fit up to four rounds in their magazines.

BLR is the acronym for Browning Lever Rifle. The precision button-rifled stainless barrel has a protective precision crowned muzzle and a sporter profile. Miroku machines these polished blued barrels individually and checks interior bores for straightness with air gauges, etc.

The receiver is gloss blued finished aircraft-grade lightweight aluminum and drilled and tapped for optic mounts. The receiver has long glare-reducing serrations along the top. Inside is a multi-lug locking bolt and a rack and pinion lever-action. The travel moves with the lever to decrease finger pinches. In back is a four-position folding hammer indicating full-cock, half-cock, folded hammer position or fired position.

Browning uses a nice Grade I walnut with 18 LPI cut checkering in pennants on both forearm and stock. The grain is generally parallel to the barrel and the gun’s linear axis. The forearm has a Schnabel bulb in front for a more comfortable grip and better control. The totality looks great.

These guns come with adjustable iron sights. The gold bead front sight is dovetailed into the elevated ramp sight post. In back you get a square notch screw-adjustable rear sight. The stock is backed by a polymer recoil pad. Except for possibly a few outliers, the stock’s silhouette includes a straight and level check with a 1” drop. Thus, both drop at cheek and drop at comb at 1”. And you get gloss blued sling swivel studs in front and back.

The detachable box magazine is infinitely more practical than the older tube magazine configuration. This alters the gun’s profile and makes the barrel stand out more. Most importantly, it permits multiple magazines to swap quickly and to use with modern pointed bullet calibers rather than the flatter ones usually seen in lever-actions.
