The Browning Gold 3+1/4+1 capacity 10-gauge gas operated semi-automatic shotguns were designed specifically for this gauge though earlier models also came in 12-gauge and 20-gauge.

Current production Browning Golds have two camouflage choices, each available in 26” or 28” barrel lengths. The 26” models are 48” overall and weigh 9 pounds 9 ounces. The 28” models are 50” overall and weigh an ounce more.

The camouflage options are the marshy themed Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Habitat or the woodsier Mossy Oak Break-Up Country. These camo patterns cover the barrel, vent rib, forend, magazine cap, receiver and stock. On the other hand, the bolt slide, alloy trigger guard and alloy trigger are all matte black. The bottom of the trigger guard has the classic Browning gold Buck Mark underneath.

These slick autoloaders are designed for long-range hitting power. They have steel barrels, aluminum alloy receivers and composite stocks. The composite stocks help lower weight and expedite production.

At heart are the lineup’s lightweight but tough and durable aluminum alloy receivers backed by polished 3 ½” chambers. Each comes with three Standard Invector flush choke tubes: Full, Modified, Improved Cylinder (F, M, IC). Also in each case, the vent rib is 5/16” wide (which translates to about 8mm), and it’s topped by a silver bead front sight.

These shotguns leverage Browning’s well-known Active Valve gas operating system for recoil reduction and more. It takes exhaust gases and shunts them to cycle the action. The rest gets vented through the Active Valve with little drama through the top of forearm. Less gas from the fired shells going out the muzzle also thus mitigates recoil. The system is designed to use most of the gas from light loads and less gas from heavier ones while shortening cycle times for faster, more accurate follow-on shots. It does all this without impacting the gas piston, which further improves longevity and durability. Browning claims it makes the Gold lineup “one of the softest shooting autoloaders ever…”

In all cases, drop at comb is 1 5/8", which slopes modestly to a 1 7/8" drop at heel. Length of pull is 14 ½”. The composite stock has a flat spot at bottom and a soft, thick black Inflex 2 recoil pad that’s designed to actually redirect recoil forces down rather than straight back.

Browning Gold tube magazines can handle either four 2 3/4" shells or a three 3.5” shells. And in either case, you can put one in the chamber making capacity either 4+1 or 3+1.

What else? Both forend and stock have nicely placed textured grip panels, and you also get integral sling swivel studs. These shotguns are designed for breaking down easily for cleaning by removing the barrel, then the bolt handle and finally the bolt assembly.

If you’re looking for a 10-gauge to take out into the woods or marshes, these Browning autoloading shotguns might be the end of your search.
