The high-capacity CZ 75 full-size semi-automatic steel frame pistol family is the most popular police and military gun worldwide, according to its maker CZ. You can get it in 9 mm Luger (10+1, 16+1 or 18+1 capacity) or .40 S&W (10+1 capacity). Thanks to its bold looks, excellent ergonomics, overall design simplicity and more, It’s been widely emulated and well over 1,000,000 have been built to date. The second generation CZ-75 B added a serrated front face to the rounded trigger guard and other features such as a firing pin block (hence the “B”). The CZ 75 B Omega added the simplified Omega trigger group that streamlines takedown and maintenance.

Frames and slides are matte black on most models. There is also a CZ Shadow 2 with an urban gray frame, black slide and black grips. There is a beautiful stainless-steel CZ 75 B 45 Anniversary gun that sports beautiful gold engraved white wooden grips. The CZ 75 B ? Urban Grey Suppressor-Ready (Omega) is urban gray across the frame and slide. The grips, controls, sights and fasteners are black. Kansas City, Kansas-based CZ-USA imports the lineup into the United States from the Czech Republic, hence the “CZ-USA” prefix for American market guns. The gun started production in 1975, hence the “75” suffix.

Since then, the 75 line has morphed into an expansive raft of models to please just about anyone. For starters, there are both full-size and compact frames. There are competition pistols developed for USPCA, IPSC and IDPA matches. There are versions with decockers (tagged with a “D” suffix) in lieu of a trigger lock. Some CZ 75s are single-action only (SAO), others are ambidextrous, etc.

The shared family trait is a 4.6” long hammer forged barrel. The relentlessly sturdy construction integrates a slide-in-frame slide mated to a lightweight polymer frame. The slide-in-frame design tracks better and makes for better recoil control. 75s with an “SA” suffix have full length slide rails, single action only (hence the SA) triggers, ambidextrous safeties and an extended beavertail.

Most CZ 75s have white 3-dot sights. Some have adjustable sights while others have fixed Tritium night sights. Most models have a firing block safety

The full-size CZ-USA 75 has double-stack architecture permitting high-capacity. The various 9 mm models come with 10-round, 16-round or 18-round magazines. The 40 S&W models have 10-round magazines. Note that CZ has more or less standardized magazine interchangeability. So most of the CZ 75 magazines can work with full size, compact and subcompact models.

Other CZ 75s wear either plastic or rubber grips. Key dimensions start with the 4.6” long barrel. Height is 5.4”, width is 1.4” and overall length is 8.1”. Depending on model/configuration, weight is 2.2 to 2.4 pounds.
