The Connecticut Valley Arms Scout V2 is a gorgeous, affordable and high-quality single-shot .44 Magnum. It comes in a svelte shape decorated in two main colors: stainless for the receiver, barrel, trigger guard and trigger and black for the stock, scope rail and most everything else.

Beyond price, the single-shot design accumulates benefits: fewer moving parts, and light weight. It’s also completely ambidextrous.

Fastened atop the receiver is a black DuraSight scope rail. CVA is well-known for making muzzle loader guns. And the DuraSight rail is a Z-2 alloy screw-mounted rail that they’ve developed to fit most of their muzzle loading guns and the Scout V2. It works in concert with their scope rings that are also precision machined from Z-2 alloy.

The second generation Scout’s .44 Magnum stainless steel barrel is 22” long and has a 1 to 20” twist ratio; the tube ends in an un-threaded muzzle. But it’s the elegant fluting between the chamber and muzzle that’s eye-catching. Fluting takes extra work. It maintains strength while at the same time dissipating heat a bit faster and also lightening the barrel.

The Scout’s rearguard is Connecticut Valley’s own thick, black, CrushZone butt pad. It absorbs recoil, but also has nice aesthetics that extends rather than disrupting the stock’s aesthetics.

Other specifications? Length of pull is 14”, and overall length is from muzzle to butt pad covers 38”. Total weight tips 7.3 pounds.

In back is a cylindrical knob hammer arm and the trigger has a spur breeching lever beneath it. Pull gently and to break open the gun and expose the breech. Note that the gun has an extractor that extracts loads, but does not eject them.

Even at this affordable price range, the CVA Scout has tool-free disassembly that facilitates quick take downs and easy maintenance.

Connecticut Valley Arms sounds like it makes guns in Connecticut. In fact, it’s a company based in metro-Atlanta, Georgia. But the guns are made even further from Connecticut in Bergara, Spain, a picturesque town tucked away in Basque country not far from the Atlantic Ocean.
