The Diamondback DBX57 Series combines 5.7x28mm caliber, 8” long threaded barrel and dual gas piston locked breech operating system into a small semi-automatic package that extends to 25.4” and weighs just 3.7 pounds.
The 5.7x28mm ammo was originally developed circa 1990. It was further refined by legendary Belgian company FN Herstal in the early 2000s to meet a NATO requirement for a round better than 9x19mm ammo, and it is becoming increasingly popular.
DBX57s use plenty of advanced materials. The receiver is 7075 aluminum. It extends over the barrel and is crested by a long, continuous Picatinny rail for sights, optics, etc.
The handguard is an M-LOK compatible hangar made of 6061 aluminum. Rather than the common octagonal profile handguard, this one is tall and narrow. Also it actually mates below the receiver extension, and it has a MAGPUL hand stop on the bottom that mates using the M-LOK slots. Both it and the receiver are black hard coat anodized.
The barrel has a 1 to 9” RH twist ratio and is fronted by a 1/2"x28 TPI thread. Fronting the device is a black quad-pronged DBX Muzzle Device. Interestingly, the prongs are ported and tapered making for a slick, sporting look.
The gun has a standard AR-15 type trigger. Its architecture means it’s compatible with any AR-15 type trigger. On the bottom is a Made in USA MAGPUL MOE-K grip that’s 3.8” tall, 1.0” wide and weighs just 2.4 ounces. It has texturized flanks, stippling elsewhere and a 20-degree grip angle optimized for holding the gun close. It lacks a beavertail in order to keep the grip circumference smaller than on many other grips.
The brace at rear mounts via a small vertical Picatinny rail. The brace is side-folding allowing for easy transport.
Other key metrics? The gun’s height is 7.3”, width is 1.75” and overall length is 25.4”. Fold the brace, and take off almost a foot. Overall length is then just 16.9”. The gun’s normal weight is 3.7 pounds with an empty magazine. But remove the brace and weight drops to just 3.0 pounds.
The DBX57 comes with a 20-round FN Five-SeveN (no, the capital N is not a typo) compatible magazine. Diamondback is based in Cocoa, Florida. The DBX57 Series is Made in USA.
