The FN SLP gas-operated 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun debuted in 2008. It’s immediately apparent that this matte black 18” barrel arm is engagingly ultra-modern. Capacity is 6+1, which the SLP can fire in under a second. For good reason, American Rifleman Magazine named it 2009 Shotgun of the Year.

The SLP effortlessly integrates sturdy components such as a lightweight alloy receiver with a 3” chamber, a two-piece bolt and a receiver-mounted bolt release. The operating handle is ergonomically curved. You also get a tough synthetic stock and forearm with tactile grip surfaces on both, a curved grip and an excellent non-slip recoil pad at back.

Atop the hard-chrome bore barrel, you get high-profile fully adjustable rifle sights with the rear sights sitting on an MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail accessory rail above the receiver. The rear sight is a nice adjustable ghost ring while the front sight is wing-protected.

The front is compatible with trusted interchangeable Standard Invector choke tubes. Below it, the extended magazine tube extends fully to an end point flush under the muzzle making capacity 6+1 though the tactical barrel is only 18” long. Overall length is 38.75”, width is 2.4”, height is 7.9” and overall weight is 7.7 pounds.

The gun comes standard in all matte black. The gas system is an active-valve type that permits automatically adjusting to different loads. Two steel sling swivel studs facilitate carrying while a crossbolt safety at the back of the trigger guard makes locking the gun easy.
