The compact Glock G45 is a latest generation (Gen 5) 9x19 mm semi-automatic that fits a 4.02” long GMB barrel and correspondingly compact 6.85” long slide to a full-size polymer frame whose standard double-stack magazine packs 17-rounds. Glock calls the all matte-black G45 a crossover due, in part, to its combined G19X (X stands for crossover) and Law Enforcement characteristics. The gun also has a tough corrosion resistant nDLC (diamond-like coating) finish over the slide and barrel.

Standard weight without magazine is 21.73 ounces. Add a fully-loaded 17-round magazine and weight climbs instantly to 30.34 ounces, which is still light considering G45’s dimensions and capacity.

The extra grooving inside the Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB) improves accuracy compared to more plebian barrels.

The pistol has a hybrid steel-polymer slide. It’s lightweight, but still has enough length (6.85”) and mass to mitigate felt-recoil. The slide’s width is 1.00”, which is fairly typical of Glock’s slides. That said, the gun is a bit wider across the grips where it is 1.34” wide. Overall length is 7.44” and height, with the magazine that protrudes out a bit even when fully docked is 5.47”.

The length of the slide affords fairly generous sight radii. With the Glock Night Sights, it’s 5.94”. This radius bumps up to 5.98” with steel sights and 6.02” with polymer ones. Another key metric is the 2.76” trigger distance from the back of the grip to the trigger face.

The safety trigger prevents the trigger from being pulled unless the safety is pulled too. The trigger has a standard factory-set 5.85 pounds of pull.

The G45’s design is quite conservative. As already mentioned, it comes standard in only one configuration: all matte black. The slide is long enough for vertical grip serrations in both front and back, but they are vertical rather than diagonal. The beavertail is docked, but high up for improved felt-recoil mitigation and better general control. The grip has pyramid stippling all around, and there is a single-slot accessory rail under the recoil spring housing. In other words, there is nothing on this gun that should be a surprise, but for those who simply want to buy the industry workhorse that’s popular due to its combination of lightweight construction, reliability and service, no surprises is often just what they want.

The G45 uses a Safe Action trigger system. So the trigger safety that blocks the trigger from moving back until the safety is pulled. There is also a firing pin bar safety, drop safety and visual and tactile loaded chamber indicator.

The trigger guard has a vertical front face that curves forward slightly at the bottom. Within the guard perimeter is plenty of room for a gloved finger.

The pistol grip has a short toe in front and a gentle palm swell in back. The sides are textured.

The G45 has ambidextrous minimalist slide stop levers and squared magazine releases instead of the circular ones common to many other guns.

While the G45 comes standard with a pair of 17-round magazines, it can also accommodate Glock’s 19, 24, 31 and 33-round mags.
