The Wild West style Henry Golden Boy is a gorgeous, affordable lever-action rimfire repeating rifle from the company that invented the genre. Golden Boy has three models: .22 LR (16 rounds), .22 MAG (12 rounds) and .17 HMR (12 rounds).

All three Golden Boy models feature a blued barrel, a resplendent Brasslite receiver and cover, and beautifully varnished wooden American walnut forestock and buttstock. The trim parts like the trigger and action lever are blued while others such as the barrel band and butt plate are brass. In what is truly a nice touch, even some of the flat-head screws are brass.

All three models are the same except as follows. The .22 LR has a 20” barrel, 1:16 twist and an overall length of 38.5”. The .22 MAG’s barrel is 20.5” long, 1:16 twist, but is 39.0” long. Finally, the .17 HMR has a 20” long barrel with a 1:9 twist ratio and is 38.5” long. In all cases, weight is 6.75 pounds.

The fashion is old school Wild West, but the Golden Boy functions with the slick reliable operability and smooth action of modern technology. The gun’s heritage looks are due to parts like the dovetailed brass bead front sight, the adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight and long under-barrel tubular magazines. The rear sight has a diamond opening and is dovetailed into the upper barrel. It can be tapped left or right for windage adjustments, and elevation can be adjusted by moving the appropriately named elevator using a flat-head screwdriver.

The Golden Boys are drilled and tapped for scopes and have a GB-CSM scope mount. For safety, the gun has a hammer safety and a transfer safety.

The Golden Boy also has a youth/lady’s version that uses a shorter barrel and shorter length-of-pull to make it more compact and lighter.

This gun comes from a company loaded with history. In 1860, Benjamin Tyler Henry patented the lever-action repeating rifle considerably upping the firepower of a single man compared to his musket-toting counterparts. During the US Civil War, in 1864 Union soldiers used Henry’s rifles to considerable advantage against their Rebel opponents in places like Allatoona Pass, Georgia. In 1876, Sioux and Cheyenne braves routed Custer’s US troops in part thanks to their Henry repeating rifles. Winchester based its repeating rifles on Henry’s design.

Henry Repeating Arms Company is based in Bayonne, New Jersey. Henry makes its guns in the USA.
