Uncover History with Historical Henry Rifles

Designed by Benjamin Tyler Henry in the 1850s, Henry rifles are considered to be some of the first reliable lever-action repeating rifles. Henry rifles made their mark in American history when they were heavily utilized in both the American Civil War and by frontiersmen across the American West. Henry rifles were only produced until 1866, but today the Henry rifle remains a strong reminder of the American West. Gunsmith and manufacturer Benjamin Tyler Henry was hired by the New Haven Arms Company in the 1850s to develop a repeating rifle that was better than the rifle created by the no longer existing Volcanic Repeating Arms Company. Henry rifles were heavily used during the Civil War, but the gun was never adopted for service. As a result, many soldiers had to purchase it on their own. The Henry rifles could fire upward of 28 rounds per minute, which at the time was unheard of, but they had no safety and were always in firing position when the hammer was cocked. In 1866, the Henry rifle was modified and renamed the Winchester Model 1866.

Be in the Present with Modern Henry Rifles

In 1996, firearms businessman Louis Imperato acquired the rights to the historical Henry rifles name "Henry Repeating Arms." Imperato's Henry Repeating Arms company has since then been manufacturing modern Henry rifles inspired by the historical Henry rifles of the late-nineteenth century. Today, Henry Repeating Arms is a family-owned business that has over 400 employees and goes by the motto, "Made in America, or not made at all."
