The Howa TSP X bolt-action rifle is new for 2020. The TSP stands for Tactical Shooting Platform. This gun is about as skeletonized as they come, and as such, it’s a fine quality design marvel available in 6.5 Creedmore (1:8” twist ratio), 6.5 PRC (1:8”) and long distance .300 PRC (1:8.5”) calibers.

This Howa’s chassis is machined of 6061 T-6 aluminum that’s ruggedized with an anodized coating. Its key components such as the receiver, trigger guard, forward adaptor, buttstock and forend come together with a handful of bolts, and it weighs just 4.1 pounds.

The free-floating heavy barrel is 24” long. Overall length comes to 44.25” and total weight is 13.5 pounds. The nicely designed rigid forend has 15 M-LOK slots in groups of five at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock.

The TSP X has a supremely skeletonized folding buttstock that has an adjustable cheek rest. Length of pull can be adjusted by 1” (using combinations of included 5 mm thick spacers that fit between the buttstock and buttpad). The cheek rest can be adjusted 1.1” and even its yaw can be adjusted by 7 degrees to either side!

The gun is suppressor ready and can be commonly had with a two-chamber muzzle brake. It also has a nicely sculpted pistol grip, and there are four QD sling cup positions including two on the handguard’s ventral surface and one on either side of the buttstock’s front bottom corner.

The gun’s two-stage curved zero creep Howa Activated Controlled Trigger (HACT) has crisp, clean, breaks and is seemingly universal among the Howa 1500 series guns.

All this sophistication combines to give the gun its sub-MOA rating, meaning that given factory or premium ammunition, it can shoot a group of three rounds within an inch at up to 100 yards.

The TSP X comes in either matte black or in a TSP X Flag Chassis livery that’s a Cerakote protected American flag scheme draped over the handguard, receiver and buttstock. In either guise, the TSP X has an optional scoped package that’s includes a Nikko Diamond LR 30MM 4-16×50 scope and CNC machined Zero-Lok aluminum clamshell mounts. These tough, lightweight mounts make perfect connections and use integrated Nikko ring bases.

The Nikko Diamond LR 30MM 4-16×50 scope mounts on an EGW 20 MOA elevated scope base that bridges the ejector area. This long-range scope is nitrogen-filled to prevent fogging. It’s also waterproof, shockproof, 14.5” long and weighs a pound.

The gun comes with a 5-round magazine. Despite the American flag option, the Howa TSP X is Made in Australia!
