The Ithaca Gun Company Model 37 Home Defense pump-action shotgun comes in 12-gauge or 20-gauge. The 12-gauge has 18.5” and 20” length barrel options, while the 20-gauge is 18.5” only. The barrels are lengthened with forcing cones, reducing shot deformation and recoil. All back to a 3” chamber in a machined steel receiver. These will handle either 2 ¾” or 3” shells.

Note: Model 37s have been made for eons. While no longer in production, past models included 16-gauge and 28-gauge. These had 2 ¾” chambers and could only handle 2 ¾” shells!

The 20” barrel gun has an 8-shot capacity while the 18.5” barrel gun has a 5-shot capacity. Each configuration comes with a trio of Briley choke tubes (full, improved and modified).

In all cases, you get a brass bead front site, tube magazine under the barrel, a nice American-style curved grip stock, and a thick black rubber pad in back. The curved trigger has a 4-to-6-pound trigger pull and sits inside a classic racetrack oval trigger guard. The trigger sits in a steel trigger housing. The safety is at the back of the trigger guard.

No matter how you get one configured, it has a walnut stock. But the nice thing is you can get it with its big metal components having either a matte blued or a nitride finish.

The magazine is loaded from below. Ejection happens there too!
