The Kimber Micro 9 Raptor is a gorgeous 9 mm semi-automatic designed for conceal carry. It can be had either as the Micro 9 Stainless Raptor with an aluminum frame finished in KimPro silver mated to a satin silver finished stainless steel slide and West African zebrawood grips. Or one can get the Micro 9 Raptor (Collector’s Edition) that’s finished in black with a slide finished in Tru-Tan with tan and black grips.

The sights and hammer are matte black. Raptor is a bird or dinosaur, but perhaps this gun suggests fish, zebras and tigers. The tall grips are exotic West African zebrawood. Virtually all else, which includes the slide, frame, ejection port, muzzle, recoil spring plug, mainspring housing, trigger, buttons and fasteners are stainless-steel.

Beyond the stainless-steel aesthetics, what sets this gun apart from its siblings such as the Kimber Micro 9 Raptor is its fish scale motif. These “scales” are interleaved scalloped indentations that occur on the back of the slide instead of the usual diagonal serrations. They are also on the foregrip, on the zebrawood grip panels, and, in larger size, across the top of the slide and on the flat mainspring housing. The zebrawood panels are very attractive, but their dark bands and tan stripes probably evoke tigers more than zebras.

The stainless-steel slide is beautifully barrel-vaulted and decorated with a single column of the aforementioned scales across the top running from front to back. The gun comes standard with low profile snag-free white dot sights dovetailed atop the slide. The sight radius between them is 4.3”.

Let’s cover more details. The Raptor’s top to bottom height is 4.07” and length is 6.1”. The gun accepts either a 6-round or 7-round single-stack stainless-steel witness hole magazine. The 6-round magazine sits flush in the magwell, while the 7-round one has a black bathtub protrusion that mates almost organically to the grip.

Taking advantage of these thin magazines, the Micro 9 Raptor’s width is only 1.06”. Even with an empty magazine in the compact gun, weight is only 15.6 ounces. All this facilitates concealment and portability.

The slide rear flanks have scale serrations. As expected, other components such as the loop hammer and the back of the rear sight have horizontal serrations though for the hammer the reason is tactile while for the sight it’s to cut glare. In either case, this points to smart and efficient design.

At just 3.15”, the barrel is compact, ramped and made of stainless-steel. It has a 1 to 16” left-hand twist.

The aluminum frame keeps weight to a minimum. The beavertail is extended, which makes for nice lines on the gun.

The thumb safety, magazine release and slide stop are all on the left. Both the thumb safety and slide stop are nicely beveled.

The trigger guard is curved. Inside it, the solid trigger is smooth and comes with a 7-pound factory setting. Helping manage recoil are a full-length guide rod and a recoil spring rated at 11.5 pounds.
