The LWRCI IC-DI is an AR-type semi-automatic rifle chambered for 5.56 NATO or .300 AAC Blackout that combines long range accuracy with modular architecture, stunning aesthetics and feature-rich functionality.

IC DI stands for Individual Carbine Direct Impingement pistol. LWRCI’s Individual Carbine lineup is based on its submission for the U.S. Army Individual Carbine program. Direct impingement makes this gun lighter than a piston system would be although the IC family’s modular interchangeable architecture makes it possible to upgrade this gun to an IC piston driven upper.

LWRC International (aka LWRCI) founded in 1999 as Land Warfare Resources Corporation. It’s headquartered in Cambridge, Maryland. LWRC focuses on high-performance firearms. Interestingly, LWRCI makes an astonishing number of its parts and components in house, permitting control over the final product. Thus, many of its components are tagged with an LWRCI prefix. We’ll outline some of those below.

The LWRCI Monoforge upper receiver is far more solid than it looks. And what a piece it is. It has a free-floating fully skeletonized handguard that enshrouds the barrel and includes a seamless full-length Picatinny accessory rail. Attached to the bottom are a short LWRCI Hand Stop and, a few inches back, an almost triangular skeletonized LWRCI Angled ErgonomicFore Grip.

The cold hammer forged heavy barrel is 16.1” long with a 1 to 7” RH twist. It’s a marvelous spiral fluted barrel design finished in Ni-Corr (black nitride). Fronting the muzzle is an LWRCI A2 Birdcage Flash Hider. The 5.56 has a ½”x28 TPI muzzle thread while the .300 has a 5/8”x24 TPI muzzle thread. Other than that, the two models have the same specifications. Thus, total length is 32” to 35.25” long and weight is 6.6 pounds.

The LWRCI IC DI can be had in standard black, or, for a bit extra, flat dark earth, olive drab green, patriot brown or tungsten gray.

The pistol grip is an exception to the LWRCI components. It’s a polymer Magpul MOE+ grip that combines a rubber overmolding plus a beavertail backstrap for improved comfort and handling. The grip is 1.2” thick, has horizontal serrations at front and back and features light texturing along the sides. It’s also hollow permitting storage through its bottom cap. [Update: As of early 2020 or so, all LWRCI guns now come with LWRCI Combat Grip Pistol Grip.]

Modularity and ambidexterity are important IC DI attributes. The lower receiver is fully ambidextrous, which applies to the lower controls such as the magazine release, bolt catch/release and fire selector. The gun also includes an ambidextrous charging handle just aft of the Picatinny rail. But what’s really attractive is the IC DI’s compatibility with the entire IC line of firearms. So buy this and you can upgrade to other upper receivers whenever you want and swap out grips, stocks and more.

The back features a minimalist lightweight six-position LWRCI adjustable compact stock with integral sling attachment points. A simple lever permits one-handed adjustment and it weighs just under half a pound.
