The O.F. Mossberg & Sons Mossberg 930 Hunting Turkey/Field is part of Mossberg’s affordable 930 Hunter 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun lineup. The 4+1 Hunting Turkey/Field stands out from its siblings with its 26” barrel that’s in between the 24” and 28” barrel guns of the others. It also stands out by disappearing into the woods with its outstanding Mossy Oak Bottomland camo that covers the vent rib, barrel, receiver, synthetic forend and synthetic stock. Pretty much everything else like the buttpad and ejection port are matte black.

The Hunting Turkey/Field has a 26” length barrel and 48.5” overall length. Length of pull is a neat (and comfortable) 14”. Weight is 7.75 pounds. Like most other 930s, it features a red front fiber optic sight. Its 3” chamber handles 2 ¾” and 3” shells. Magazine capacity is five 2 ¾” or four 3” shells making overall capacity 5+1 or 4+1 respectively. But 930s also come with a magazine plug that limits capacity to just two shells to stay abreast of regulations. The vent rib sits atop a collection of 11 vertical bridge piers.

You get a nice little collection of chokes too: Accu-set and X-Factor XX-Full Turkey Tube. The Briley Accu-Set chokes are Skeet, Improved Cylinder and Modified. These three have nifty fluted snouts and a carrying case. The matte black X-Factor XX-Full Turkey Tube is optimized for a dense pattern and short distances. It’s got two encircling bands of angled ports in front, and its head has a nice tactile grip surface.

The stock has a standard profile. Behind it is the thick black “checkered” recoil pad. It’s skeletonized and soaks up plenty of recoil. There are also integrated sling studs at front on the magazine cap and in back on the stock’s bottom slope.

All 930s feature drilled and tapped receivers so you can mount Picatinny rail for optics. The lineup’s synthetic forend and stock models have Mossberg’s simple but effective adjustable stock drop spacer system (that includes spacers and retention plates) for personalization. These guns also have a dual gas-vent system that reduces felt recoil.

In all cases, you get a forend and stock with nice contours and excellent texturing on both parts. Moving back, you’ll find the ambidextrous tang safety with the standard forward is safe and rearward is ready to fire. An easy to see silver cocking indicator automatically protrudes when the gun is cocked. At bottom is a quick-empty magazine release button. Push it and all loaded shells easily drop out.
