The Mossberg 930 pro series dual-vent gas system autoloader 12 gauge sporting shotguns have been around for some years, and Mossberg keeps building on success by adding new variants to extend the family line.

The Mossberg 930 is a family of 15 shotguns, and each of these has one to three subvariants. They vary in important details. Barrels can be 18.5”, 22”, 24”, 26” and 28”. They vary in magazine capacity (4+1, 7+1, 8+1, 9+1 and 12+1) and thus, correspondingly, magazine tube length. Most have Accu-Set chokes, but some have XX-Full, Cylinder Bore, etc.

The 930 Tactical – 8 Shot SPX – Pistol Grip differs in, you guessed it, the fact that it has a pistol grip, while two of the guns have walnut stocks and forends. Most other 930s have some sort of camouflage. Overall lengths vary between 37” 4+1 930 Thunder Ranch and 52.5” for the 12+1 930 Snow Goose.

These barrels allow shooters to fire either 2.75” or 3” shells and handle both steel and lead pellets. The 930 has a choke tube ventilated rib barrel optimized to reduce felt recoil and muzzle jump for faster follow up shots, a flat sight plain and heat dissipation. Best of all, it also provides tighter and more uniform shot patterns.

The stocks are designed to fit a wide range of people, complete with the company’s own Stock Drop System that permits users to adjust comb drop for optimized comfort and cheek alignment. The receiver has been drilled and tapped. The bulging fore stock is superb in position, feel and comfort.

You’ll be pleased that the Mossberg 930s comes with three different Accu-Choke choke tubes (Improved Cylinder, Modified and Full) to allow you to optimize your experience with the pattern you want.

The 930s have an ambidextrous red dot slide tang safety and at back is a generous recoil pad. What else? Front and back swivel studs making slinging the 930 easy while a nifty quick magazine dump feature requires the push of a button to immediately eject all loaded shells.

A key variant is the 930 Thunder Ranch. This 4+1 capacity 18.5” long standoff matte blued barrel has a cylinder bore choke, a front fiber optic sight, 14” length of pull, 37” overall length and weighs 6.75 pounds. The camouflage is by KUIU of Dixon, California. This camouflage pattern is heavily researched, and with its disruptive lines, it looks more like traditional US Army camouflage than many camouflage schemes on other guns by Mossberg and other arms manufacturers. As such, it’s a stand out scheme.

Another variant is the Mossberg 930 JM Pro Series. These JM initialed 930 shotguns are named after an all-time speed shooting great Jerry Miculek who played a strong consulting role in the design of the 930 JM. Remember that Jerry Miculek is a speed shooter. So naturally, this gun is tweaked for fast action. It includes a fast cycling gas system, a knurled charging handle, easy reloading thanks to a beveled loading gate and special corrosion resistant finishes for longer duration and higher usage. The 930 JM lacks camouflage, etc., emphasizing its use as a match gun.
