The Mossberg International 702 is a budget model .22 LR semi-automatic rifle. Belying its toyish dimensions and budget price, this is actually a reliable, decently accurate, well-assembled gun with fiber optic sights.

There’s a shrouded red fiber optic sight in front and the back fiber optic sights are pale green. The rear sight even has a pair of knobs to easily adjust the 702 for both windage and elevation. Moreover there’s an accessory rail for 3/8” scopes aft of the rear sight.

The receiver and barrel are metal, but the grip is stippled and the stock is sturdy polymer with a thick, vented, comfortable butt stock pad. The magazine lock and the safety button are positioned ventrally in between the magazine and trigger guard. The bolt and operating handle are minimalistic, which is what one would expect in this price range.

There are two models, the Mossberg International 702 Plinkster and the slightly shorter Mossberg International 702 Youth Bantam Plinkster. The first model’s blued barrel is 18” long with a 1 to 16” twist and with a line of pull of 14.25” and a total length of 37”. It weighs in at a hair under four pounds. The latter model is identical except it has a shorter butt, such that the length of pull is two inches shorter at 12.25” and overall length is also correspondingly shorter at 35"".

The 702 comes standard with a straight 10 round clip magazine, but a more aggressive looking 25 round 702 Plinkster magazine is also available for purchase. There are swivel studs in front and back for easy carry.

While Mossberg is based in New Haven, Connecticut, the Mossberg International 702 Plinksters are actually not made at the company’s Eagle Pass, Texas manufacturing center, but in Brazil.
