The Mossberg International 802 is a budget model .22 LR bolt-action rifle. This is actually a reliable, decently accurate, well-assembled gun with good groupings, minimal recoil and fiber optic iron sights. There’s nothing particularly fancy about this gun, and yet it delivers a really great value with some nifty features.

Speaking of features, let’s start by mentioning the Mossberg International 802 has a shrouded red fiber optic sight in front and two pale green fiber optic sights at rear. The rear sight even has a pair of knobs to easily adjust the 802 for both windage and elevation. Moreover there’s a molded accessory rail for 3/8” scopes at back behind the rear sight, and it even has a bipod mount.

The receiver and barrel are metal, but the grip is stippled and the stock is sturdy polymer with a thick, vented, comfortable butt stock pad. Perhaps as expected, the trigger is non-adjustable. The magazine lock is positioned ventrally in between the magazine and trigger guard while the trigger safety button is mounted directly above the forward slant of the trigger guard.

In many ways, this gun is simply the bolt-action version of the Mossberg International 702 Plinkster semi-automatic rifle. Both have two models. However, the 702 has a standard model and a youth bantam version. The Mossberg International also has two models. However, the 802 models differ in that there is the standard version and then there is the scoped version. So let’s dive into those.

The Mossberg International 802 Plinkster slightly shorter Mossberg International 802 Youth Bantam Plinkster. Like its 702 Plinkster stablemate, the first model’s blued barrel is 18” long with a 1 to 16” twist and with a line of pull of 14.25” and a total length of 37”. It weighs in at a hair under four pounds. The second model is identical except it comes standard with a 4x scope in addition to the aforementioned fiber optic sights.

The 802 comes standard with a straight 10 round clip steel box magazine, but a more aggressive looking 25 round 802 Plinkster magazine is also available for purchase. There are swivel studs in front and back for easy carry.

While Mossberg is based in New Haven, Connecticut, the Mossberg International 802 Plinksters are actually not made at the company’s Eagle Pass, Texas manufacturing center, but in Brazil.
