North American Arms’ Black Widow mini revolver evokes two famous names of American World War II aviation: North American, the aircraft company that made the fabled P-51 Mustang fighter, and the Northrop P 61 Black Widow night fighter. As such, it’s a good implicit legacy.

The Black Widow is not one revolver, but a family of eight, all sporting the prefix “NAA-BW”, as in North American Arms - Black Widow. The gun is a single-action 5 shot revolver.

Features common to all eight include a 2” long heavy vent barrel, a thick bull cylinder, a meaty super-size black grip that’s disproportionally big and wide compared to the rest of the gun and a small trigger without any trigger guard.

There’s something rather high-tech about the design. Atop the barrel is a straight top deck that’s cut with four long serrations that run from the back of the front sight to the front of the rear sight. It’s also vented with three bunker openings on either side.

Key dimensions are an overall length of 5.88”, height 3.69” and a width of 1.00”. Weight is 8.9 ounces, or just over half a pound.

Of the eight models, two are finished in a matte black PVD coating for long-term durability and wear protection. So with their black grips and black sights, these two models look black overall. Of the pair, one is for .22 Magnum ammunition only while the other handles both .22 Magnum and .22 Long Rifle thanks to a .22 LR conversion cylinder.

After the two PVD models, there are six models with black grips but everything else is stainless steel. Three of these vary in their ammunition. There is a .22 Magnum, a .22 Long Rifle and a .22 Magnum/.22 Long Rifle variant. The final three models are the same as these three except that they have adjustable sights. More about that next.

All Black Widow mini revolvers sport black sights by Marble Arms. Five of the eight come with front and back fixed low profile white dot sights. These sights are serrated at back. The other three models come with white dot sights adjustable for elevation that are also serrated at back.
