Remington prides its 870 Express Tactical 12-gauge shotguns for their reliability and ruggedness. This is confirmed by their continued popularity. This 12-gauge features an 18.5” barrel, 6-shell magazine tube, 38.5” overall length that extends gracefully to 40.5” with the Rem choke tube, and a 7.5-pound weight. On top, you get XS Ghost Ring sights. The stock is synthetic, which is exactly what you’d want and expect in a tactical application. The barrel, receiver and other key components are matte blued.
The matte black extended choke tube has circular porting arrayed in a radial pattern around the tube while the front has a jagged crown!
As you’d expect from a Remington, this has texturing where it needs it. Thus, the tactical pump-action is ribbed, and the gracefully curved grip is rubble textured. You also get front and rear swivel studs.
Many other Remington 870s have a 4+1 capacity, but for the 870 Express Tactical, capacity jumps to 6+1 with the factory installed 2-shot extension tube. And that’s with either 2 ¾” or 3” shells.
The barrel and receiver are crested by an upscale XS blade sight in front. In back, the steel milled XS Ghost Ring sight sits on the included anodized aluminum XS Picatinny accessory rail that beds into the drilled and tapped receiver. The XS Ghost Ring can be easily adjusted for both windage and elevation after loosening the fastening screw.
The forend and stock are tough, damage resistant, black synthetic. Speaking of which, Remington starts with a solid steel billet to mill the receiver, rendering it something that should last generations. Inside the receiver, you get twin action bars to prevent binding and twisting, promoting long-lasting accuracy. You also get a nice thick black buttpad in back.
