The bolt-action Remington 700 BDL centerfire rifle was the deluxe version of the base 700 ADL model of the Remington 700 series, itself an improved version of Remington’s own earlier 721 and 722, but tweaked for even easier mass production.

The following specifications covers the early Remington 700 BDLs. Calibers include 222 Rem., 222 Rem. Mag., 243 Win., 264 Win. Mag., 7 mm Rem. Mag, 270 Win., 280 Rem., 30-06, 308 Win (all of which were on the ADL). But the BDL also includes 375 H&H Magnum and 458 Win. Magnum. The various chambers are 4+1, 5+1 or 6+1 capacity, all fed from fixed magazines.

Thus the 222 Rem., 222 Rem. Mag. are 6+1 capacity with 20” long blued barrels, overall lengths of 39.5” and 6.5-pound weights.

The 243 Win is a 5+1 with a 20” barrel and 39.5” overall length. The 270 Win., 280 Rem., 30-06, and 308 Win. are 5+1 guns with 20” barrels and 40 1/8” overall length. This group’s members weigh in at 6.75 pounds. (Later 30-06 700 BDLs had a 22” barrel and an adjustable X-Mark Pro trigger. This trigger has a factory-set 3.5 pound pull weight, but you can adjust it anywhere from 3 to 5 pounds.

The third group is the 7 mm Rem. Mag and the 264 Win. Mag.. These are 4+1s with 24” stainless-steel barrels and 44 3/8” overall length. These two weigh 7.75 pounds.

Finally, the lineup’s big guns are the 375 H&H Magnum and 458 Win. Magnum. They are also 4+1 capacity but feature 26” barrels, 46 3/8” overall lengths and hefty 9.0-pound weights.

These guns are drilled and tapped for scope mounts. They didn’t ship new with scopes, but did have a flat-faced gold bead with ramp front sight and a step adjustable rear sight with an adjustment screw. Compared to the ADL, the BDL Deluxe also added a hinged floor plate under the fixed magazine, leather sling strap with quick release swivels and a beautiful skipline pattern on the checkering. It also had a black forend tip that added a nice point of elegance.

All calibers have a 13 1/8” length of pull. The American Walnut Monte Carlo stock has a 1 11/16” drop at comb followed by a 2 5/14” drop at heel.

The guns were good looking and accurate with classic lines and blued metal parts. And the long production of the Remington 700 has spawned a ready market of aftermarket parts and accessories.

These Remington 700 BDLs were Made in USA.
