The new for 2019 12 gauge 5+1 semi-automatic Remington V3 TAC-13 is as powerful as it is unattractive. But it’s not designed for beauty. What is for is to be a compact and powerful tactical self-defense / home defense firearm.

The gun is a masculine mass of black that simultaneously melds curves, straight lines and diagonals into a cohesive whole.

Visually, the TAC-13’s standout features are its bird’s head pistol grip that’s optimized for comfort and ergonomics in a restricted environment and the integrated magazine barrel that visually integrates perfectly with the gun barrel that starts directly above it. The two are connected both visually and physically by a four tie accessory rail situated not atop the barrel or under the magazine, but sideways in between the two.

An elevated sight rail crowns the length of the barrel providing a clear sight line when needed. This rail ends in a front bead sight while the synthetic stock is black oxide finished.

The compact barrel is 13” long, is optimized for light weight and can handle 2.75” and 3” loads. Overall length is 26.5” and weight is 5.94 pounds.

Inside the gun, the ingenious self-regulating Versaport gas system is a series of seven small oval ports in the chamber rather than at the muzzle. Depending on load type, ports are revealed or covered. With longer 3” loads, three ports are covered, four are uncovered. With shorter 2.75” loads, all seven ports are uncovered. This help reduce recoil to below 50 percent of other similar models.

Other key features include its lightweight black oxide finished aluminum receiver, permitting easy transport.

The Remington V3 TAC-13’s under forend hand strap helps control muzzle flip. Rounds slide in and up in through the gun’s ventral load port in between the forend and trigger. Nearby is the cross-bolt safety.
