Want a quality, reliable and budget AK-47? Then the Riley Defense AK-47 semi-automatic may be where your search starts. And ends.
Riley is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. As of this writing, they have nine products in their lineup, all 7.62 x 39 mm caliber AK-47s (improved AKM-47s, really), all made in the USA. These are all variants of each other and vary in handguards, stocks, magazines and sights. They share the same semi-automatic closed-bolt action, bolt hold open safety, extended magazine release and black oxide finishes. Each model also has the machined scope mount side rail that permits scopes to be mounted concurrently as the included adjustable front and rear sights.
Let’s sample a few models.
The classic looking RAK-47-C-SF has a solid teak wood upper and lower handguards. It also has a Bakelite pistol grip and a MIL-SPEC heat-treated stamped receiver. The trunnion, bolt and carrier are forged. There is a 90-degree gas block. The nitrided 4150 CMV steel barrel is 16.25” long with a 14x1 LH thread. Overall length with the stock unfolded is 35.25”.
This gun comes with a bayonet lug and a 30-round magazine. But its neatest trick is that it has a fold to the left skeletonized triangular metal stock.
The RAK-47-P is largely the same as the RAK-47-C-SF but has a black polymer fixed stock as well as a black polymer upper and lower handguard. RAK-47-T-MP has a MAGPUL aluminum handguard with quad rails. It also has a MAGPUL triangular butt stock and a MAGPUL pistol grip.
RAK-47-T-MFT is a tactical variant sporting Mission First Tactical components. These are the MFT aluminum quad rail handguard, MFT pistol grip and MFT collapsible stock.
RAK-47-PISTOL has an 11.0” long barrel and a 21.0” overall length.
Riley also makes 10-round magazine AK-47s that are California, Colorado, New Jersey and New York compliant. For instance, the New York Compliant RAK-47-P-NY-TS has a 10-round magazine and a large THORDSEN polymer stock.
