The Rock Island Armory M22 TCM BA (bolt-action) rifle is built around Rock Island Armory’s own bottleneck design .22 TCM bullet. This surprisingly fast ammunition reaches up to 2,800 feet per second. The result is an affordable, feature-rich, quality rifle that also happens to look good with its classic, Philippine wood stock.

As if that wasn’t good enough, the M22 TCM has another standout feature: it can handle a 17-round magazine. Here’s why. The gun has an unusual detachable box 5-round magazine that makes perfect sense. Its parallelogram shape harmonizes with the trigger guard’s matching diagonal slope. But this match is more than just aesthetic. It allows magazine compatibility with the Rock Island TCM M1911 semi-automatic pistol’s 17-round (!) magazine that has the same diagonal slope. You read that right: you can put the 17-round .22 TCM magazine into the M22 TCM bolt-action rifle.

The 5-round magazine protrudes a tad from the gun’s belly, but still ends above the bottom of the trigger. The 17-round magazine extends down well below the rifle. Early guns came with one 5-round magazine while later M22 TCMs started shipping with two.

Here are some additional key details. The 6-groove 1 to 16” twist RH bull barrel is 22.75” long, overall height is 8.0” and the gun’s overall length is 41.14”. Length of pull is 13.5” to 14”, drop at comb is 1.625” to 1.75” while drop at heel is 3.1625” to 3.5”. Width is 3.36”. Empty weight is 7.61 pounds.

The gun comes without any scope, scope mount or sights, but does have a rail mount. The trigger guard is wide with a flat bottom. The bolt is spherical and short for quick and slick movements.

The clean breaking trigger has a 4.0 to 6.0 pound trigger pull. In spite of the .22 TCM’s power, recoil is minimal.

The stock has hand cut checkering at both the grip and forend. The checkering is functional, but it also breaks up the stock’s long length’s lines to add visual interest. At the contoured back end is a nice cheek riser and a nice butt pad. And the forend tip color matches the barrel.
