The Rock River Arms (RRA) Coyote Carbine, Coyote Rifle and ATH Carbine LAR-15M AR-15 types evolve RRA’s Standard A4. Each has a .223 Wylde chamber for both 5.56mm NATO and .223 calibers. Each is a matte black 20+1 capacity semi-automatic AR-type built around a matte black chrome moly barrel that’s 16” long for the carbine and 20” for the rifle.

Let’s tour both models. The Coyote Carbine is all black. The upper receiver is a forged A4-type upper crested by a long accessory rail. The lower receiver is a forged RRA LAR-15M RRA loves using on many of its other guns. The 11” latticework handguard is hard coat anodized 6061 aluminum with a top MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail and M-LOK slots along both flanks.

The Coyote Carbine has a carbine-length 16” chrome moly barrel with a 1:9” twist ratio. It’s fronted by a pronged flash hider that weighs .2 pounds and measures about 1.75”. The gun wears a 12.5” long handguard and spans 36” overall.

Below, you’ll see a matte black Hogue rubber grip. Hogue makes great stuff and is popular for good reason. This grip has nice texturing and three semi-circular finger grooves. There’s also an oversize concave winter trigger guard between the magwell and grip; this excellent ergonomic touch frames out ample room for gloved fingers. Within the trigger guard is an RRA two-stage trigger.

In back is an RRA Operator CAR stock. This versatile component is lever-actuated and collapsible with six positions. It includes an integral non-slip textured buttpad, two watertight battery storage tubes and a receiver extension, so there is plenty to love about it.

The totality of components and quality construction delivers excellent 1 MOA accuracy at 100 yards. Total weight empty is just 7.2 pounds, and the gun comes standard with a 20-round mag.

Second, the Coyote Rifle is the same as the Coyote Carbine except it shelters a 20” barrel within a 15” free-float handguard. Between the longer barrel and the flash hider, total length grows correspondingly to 40”. It also has a fixed RRA Operator A2 stock (instead of the carbine’s RRA Operator CAR stock). Everything else is the same. This increased length tilts the scales at 8.4 pounds.

Third, the ATH Carbine V2 (ATH stands for Advanced Tactical Hunter) uses an 18” heavy match, cryogenically treated, stainless steel barrel sheathed within the aforementioned 11” handguard. Wrenched on to the 1/2"–28 TPI threaded muzzle is a RRA Tactical Muzzle Brake. It’s 2” long and weighs 3.1 ounces. The design is engaging with a crown face, triangular chamber and ovoid lateral ports. Overall length is 39”. Between the greater length and the heavier barrel, weigh is 7.6 pounds.
