Rock River Arms X-SERIES X-1 RIFLE LAR-15M is .223 Wylde chambered for 5.56mm NATO / .223 Caliber. The 30+1 capacity semi-automatic is an AR-type built around an 18” fluted stainless-steel barrel. RRA is no mere integrator, but a proper manufacturer based in Colona, Illinois. Thus, many key components are made inhouse. The X-Series X-1 has four variants. Two are standard black models - one with a fixed stock and one with a variable stock - and then RRA offers the same two choices in tan.

Let’s describe the standard model first. Other than the stainless-steel barrel, all key components are matte black. The upper receiver is an extruded aluminum A4-type upper crested by a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny accessory rail. It has a port door without forward assist. The lower receiver is a forged RRA LAR-15M.

The front end is fascinating. In front is a 15” long lattice RRA LAR-8 Lightweight Free Float Rail handguard crested by a long Picatinny rail and flanked by eight M-LOK type slots per side, giving you plenty of room to mount accessories and plenty of flexibility in where you mount them.

The handguard enshrouds the low-profile gas block and a genuine piece of brilliance, and that’s the 18” long, fluted cryogenically treated and bead blasted stainless steel barrel. The bore has a 1:8” twist ratio. At its front is a 3.15” long, 4.7 ounce, chambered and ported matte black crown-pattern RRA Beast Muzzle Brake with a 1/2"–28 TPI thread. Atop it as a low-profile gas block mid-length gas system.

Moving down, you have an oversized for winter gloves RRA winter trigger guard. Within is an RRA two-stage trigger. The gun has an ergonomically wonderful black Hogue rubber grip. In back is a black RRA Operator A2 fixed buttstock.

Moving elsewhere, the gun has an RRA Star Safety with a pattern of serrations that radiate in all directions from a central point, hence the name. Overall length is 38.5” while weight is 7.8 pounds. The totality provides a 3/4 MOA accuracy at 100 yards. The gun comes standard with a 30-round mag.

Stepping up is the same but with the RRA Operator CAR stock. It’s lever-actuated and collapsible with six positions. It includes an integral non-slip textured buttpad, two watertight battery storage tubes and a receiver extension.

The last two models are the same as the first two except their tan scheme. Thus, the handguard, pistol grip and stock are all matte tan, the barrel is stainless and most everything else is matte black. One other difference is the 3.15” long, 4.8 ounce, chambered and ported matte black RRA Hunter Muzzle Brake with a smooth front face in place of the standard model’s RRA Beast Muzzle Brake.
