The Rock River Arms RRAGE Alpine Carbine LAR-15 is an impressive piece of hardware designed to function well in varying conditions. The gun has three models based on camouflage or lack thereof: black, Veil Alpine camouflage and Veil Tac-Black camouflage. Moreover the standard black version can be upgraded to roughly 30 different colors including FDE, drab green as well as more esoteric choices such as gold, red, white, yellow, lime green and so on. Moving past colors, here is what the gun really entails.

First, as is obvious from the name, the LAR-15 is an AR-15 platform gun with a lightweight 16” chrome moly barrel chambered 5.56 mm NATO for 5.56 mm and .223 ammunition.

The upper A4-type receiver is made of extruded 6061-T6 aluminum alloy making it light while keeping it rigid. The lower receiver is forged. The barrel has a 1 to 9” twist and is fronted by an A2 birdcage flash suppressor mounted via a ½”x28 TPI thread. The LAR-15 has a free-floated CAR-length aluminum M-LOK type handguard topped by a Picatinny rail. The handguard is also made of 6061-T6 aluminum alloy, and it seems to join almost seamlessly to the upper receiver. It is octagonal in profile with a raised roof for the CAR length low-profile gas block and gas system.

The lower receiver is a forged RRA LAR-15 type.

Moving down, the gun has a straight-leg booted A2 pistol grip with nice side panel checkering and two finger recesses. Beside it is a purely functional straight span that connects the flared magwell to the pistol grip dock to form the bottom of the trigger guard. Framed inside is an RRA Single Stage Trigger.

At back is an RRA six-position triangular tactical CAR stock.

Regardless of color or camouflage, the gun barrel, flash suppressor, trigger and other central components are matte dark gray. What changes are the colors of the upper and lower receivers, butt stock, pistol grip, magazine, and handguard.

Overall length with the stock fully extended is a still fairly compact 36” while weight comes in at 6.25 pounds.

The gun comes standard with an RRA 30-round polymer magazine. The RRAGE Alpine Carbine LAR-15 is manufactured and assembled by Rock River Arms at their Colona, Illinois factory, so it’s Made in USA.
