The Rock Island Armory Rock Ultra CS – 45 ACP is part of RIA’s Rock lineup of M1911 semi-automatics based on Series 70 architecture. It’s a 7+1 single-stack, single-action, recoil-operated semi-automatic wrapped around a 3.66" length, button rifled barrel whose 6-grooves spiral inside the bore at a 1:16” twist ratio. Bullets thus make barely a quarter turn before exiting the muzzle. The CS means Compact Size, and 45 ACP is, of course, the .45 ACP caliber.

The pistol is nice looking thanks to its detailing and classic features. To wit, it has seven nicely spaced slide serrations that tilt forward at back. The frame, slide, etc., are strong and hard high-grade SAE 4140 chromium-molybdenum alloy steel. Both frame and slide are then Parkerized for durability.

Otherwise, the gun echoes its other Rock siblings. So you’ll see a familiar upturned beavertail, skeletonized hammer that loops in an oval, adjustable overtravel stop skeletonized trigger and fixed dovetailed sights that are angled for snag-free unholstering.

Both sights are also Parkerized and thus anodized for wear and corrosion resistance. The rear sight is cantilevered and ramped for an extended sight radius, leading to increased accuracy. You also get an ambidextrous grip safety that feels just right.

The trigger is beautiful, triple ported, and has an adjustable overtravel stop. Trigger pull is factory set to 4 to 6 pounds. Unloaded weight is 2.16 pounds. Overall height is 5.1", overall width is 1.3" and overall length is 7.3".

Finally, the grips are wonderfully wavy and nicely textured white to black grayscale G10 polymer tactical grips. G10 is noted for its light weight and durability.
