The lever-action operated Rossi R92 lineup currently includes 16 models spanning .44 Mag, .45 Colt, .357 Mag and .454 Casull. These guns have fetching classic American looks that couple retro styling with modern production and quality. Barrels are 16”, 16.5”, 20” or 24” long and capacity is 8 to 12 rounds. All but two combine gleaming black or stainless receivers, barrels, etc., with elegant Brazilian hardwood. The pair of outliers are all-black. We’ll get to those shortly.

Naturally, the Rossi R92s share plenty of characteristics other than just styling. All have a manual safety knob atop the gun just in front of the serrated hammer. It reveals a red dot when the safety is off. The loading port is on the receiver’s right. The wood grain is beautiful and generally has long lines that accentuate overall length.

The front sights are adjustable for windage by simply tapping or moving them right or left as needed. The rear sight (typically a Buckhorn) is adjustable for elevation.

These guns aren’t just traditional in looks; the materials are classic too. No polymers or advanced composite materials infringe upon the R92 lineup’s purity.

Let’s look at a few examples.

The R92 44 Mag 16" 8 Rounds Stainless Steel / Brazilian Hardwood is fairly self-explanatory. It has a polished black oxide finish, 33.7” overall length and weighs 5.7 pounds.

The R92 44 Mag 20" 10 Rounds Gold / Black / Brazilian Hardwood has a gleaming polished black receiver, barrel and magazine, but then all the other metal parts are gold plated. This includes the trigger, lever, hammer, butt plate, front band, rear band, etc. Overall length is 37” and weight is 5.6 pounds.

The R92 44 Mag 24" 12 Rounds Octagonal Barrel Black / Brazilian Hardwood has an octagonal barrel that enhances the authentic looks since in the good old days, gunsmiths had an easier time making octagonal barrels than round ones. So they were more affordable. But, of course, it makes it more obvious if the gun is tilted and thus increases accuracy.

The R92 44 Mag 16.5" 8 Rounds Triple Black and R92 357 Mag 16.5" 8 Rounds Triple Black are the two outliers. They have giant glove-friendly oversize lever loops. They include an adjustable rear peep sight and an aluminum Picatinny rail for scopes or optic. Overall length is only 34” while weight is 6.1 pounds. Though they have black polymer stock looks, the reality is their stocks are wood, but painted black while the metal parts are Cerakoted black for durability.
