The matte-black Ruger 22 Charger Takedown is a .22 LR 15+1 semi-automatic pistol that’s a plinking pleasure. This compact matte black marvel is part of the Ruger 22 Charger family that also includes the Ruger 22 Charger Picatinny Rail Brace Mount, Ruger 22 Charger Lite, etc. However, those are covered elsewhere here at GunBroker.com.
The 22 Chargers have intuitive controls with a paddle-style magazine release and a curved trigger housed in a traditional ovoid trigger guard. The 22 Charger Takedown has terrific, almost avant-guard, sporty styling without any wasted contours. The compact gun’s overall length is a handy 19.25”, and overall weight is 51.5 ounces, which is just 1.5 ounces over the standard non-takedown model.
The beautifully accurate cold hammer-forged 10” barrel ends in a 1/2”x28 thread making it compatible with many flash suppressors including Ruger’s own Silent-SR. The tube bore has 6 grooves with a 1:16” RH twist.
The Takedown Model’s barrel and forend come off easily as one assembly for easier transport. The gun has an 11-slot Picatinny accessory rail that tops the alloy steel receiver so you can mount red-dot sights or a scope.
The polymer forend has tumblehome flanks that expand into a hand-filling hull. This same unibody part also functions as the lower receiver. And the upper receiver, trigger assembly, pistol grip and barrel all mate to it. Beneath the forend is a swivel stud. An unexpected feature is the very stead included adjustable bipod.
A texturized Ruger grip provides excellent control and comfort. The grip has a short beavertail and long vertical serrations in back and a full stack of horizontal serrations in front. But if you don’t like it, you can easily swap it out for any other AR-type grip.
All 22 Chargers come standard with a matte black Ruger BX-15 15-round curved box polymer magazine.
