The short-barreled Ruger Mini Thirty Tactical semi-automatic rifles are optimized for ease of handling, durability and accuracy. The range includes five Mini Thirty models, all designed around the common Russian 7.62x39 mm caliber. They vary in stock, barrel length and round capacity.

No matter the specifications, all feature a fixed-piston gas system with a self-cleaning gas cylinder in the forend, breech bolt locking system, Garand-style action, and cold hammer-forged barrel with a 1 to 10” RH twist. Also except in one case noted below, the barrels are all made of matte stainless steel, and all have a 13” length of pull. Let’s examine the five models.

The first two models have 5-round detachable box magazines and an 18.50” barrel. They can be had either in a black polymer stock or an actual wooden one. The polymer stock weighs 6.7 pounds while the wood one is a tad heavier at 7.0 pounds. These are 37.50” long.

The third model combines the 18.50” length barrel with the 20-round detachable box magazine and black polymer stock. It’s also 37.50” long and weighs 6.7 pounds.

The last two models combine the black polymer stock, 20-round detachable box magazine and a shorter tactical 16.12” barrel that’s 5/8"x24 TPI threaded and capped with a Ruger birdcage flash suppressor. One model has the standard matte stainless steel barrel and the other a blued alloy steel barrel. These two models also weigh 6.7 pounds.

Ruger likes thoughtful details, as do their consumers. For instance, the forend and grip both have nice grasp enhancing cross-hatching with dovetail pennant borders pointing front and back. The magazine latch is between the magazine and trigger guard, just where it should be. The gun safety is conveniently by the trigger guard, and the trigger guard’s back has been ported for just a tad more weight saving. Likewise, the little handguard, a futuristic piece that protects the top of the barrel that’s not already protected by the stock below, has four ports per side. They’re presumably for lightening the gun some, but they also add nicely to the looks.

The Mini Thirty guns come standard with a blade front sight that has protective vertical wings. Further back is a ghost ring aperture rear sight that’s easily adjustable for windage and elevation. The guns have durable sling swivels at front and rear. And at back is a generously thick butt pad.

These guns are designed for accuracy. Their barrels have ultra-precise rifling and their steel receivers are solid making them stable platforms for mounting scopes.

The Ruger Mini Thirty Tactical receiver comes drilled and tapped so one can mount the included Picatinny scope rail or simply leave it omitted. The gun also come with scope rings.

Regardless of configuration, each Ruger Mini Thirty Tactical comes with two Ruger Mini Thirty magazines designed specifically for this rifle. Ruger Mini Thirty Tactical rifles are made in Southport, Connecticut, and are thus Made in USA.
