The Ruger No. 1 is a splendid single-shot rifle, hence the name! Ruger normally likes large lineups, and this gun has been available in several dozen calibers in the past. But for 2020, there is only one way to get it, and that’s a .450 Bushmaster sporting a 1:10” twist ratio ultra-precise cold hammer forged 20” barrel.

Other than the forend and stock, it seems everything about this solo .450 Bushmaster Ruger is satin stainless steel. Thus the barrel, receiver, trigger guard, trigger, grip endcap and the front and rear swivel studs are all satin stainless steel.

The frontend and butt are both gray wood laminate. It’s nicely done with authentic looking grain lines. There is also nicely placed diamond-checkered texturing within pennants both on the forend and the grip. In back is a thick sporting buttpad.

In front of the 20” barrel is a magnificent stainless steel hybrid chambered / radial ported muzzle brake. It has one chamber with trapezoidal openings followed by two bands of radial ports. It affixes to the muzzle via an 11/16”x24 TPI thread.

If you like artillery, you’ll love that the No. 1 rifle has an artillery-style breech block. It also has an under-lever.

The gun comes without sights, but as Ruger does so often, there are scope mounts that are solid and stable because they are integral to the thick, over-strengthened receiver. The gun comes standard with a sight rib and scope rings.

There’s a sliding tang safety that’s visible and easy to reach. Length of pull is 13.50”, overall length is 36.50” and weight is 7.5 pounds.
