The Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter revolver is a large single-action 6-round .44 Rem Mag that can also handle .44 Special ammo. The frame is satin-finished stainless steel that features black laminate grips. The 6-groove ultra-accurate cold hammer forged barrel is an imposing 7.50” long with a 1:20” RH twist. This gun is a beast, measuring 13.12” overall and weighing in at 52 ounces, or 3.25 pounds.

This gun is a “New Model” denoting it has a transfer safety. A transfer bar safety means the hammer can’t fire the gun unless the trigger is pulled. So even if you drop a loaded revolver, it’s not supposed to fire. But there’s more: a loading gate interlock also helps prevent accidentally firing your gun.

This gun entered production in the 1980s. It has a longer, extended Bisley-style grip that extends back more than on traditional revolvers. The cylinder isn’t fluted, but roll marked, and loading is done by opening the loading gate at back right of the cylinder, rotating the cylinder in place within the frame, one round at a time.

This gun is powerful and has a corresponding “I need to be wearing ear-protection” blast (and kick). Atop the frame is a fixed ramp front sight slotted into the steel barrel dorsal rib. It’s marked with an embedded high-visibility red blaze. Behind it are integral scope-ring mounts machined into the rib, making them solid mounts indeed. The gun comes with scope rings, by the way. In back is an adjustable rear sight. It’s fully adjustable for elevation and windage. All you need is a simple flat-head screwdriver to adjust.
