The striker-fired SAR USA ST45 is a 17+1 capacity .45 ACP variant of the SAR ST9 9 mm. As a .45 ACP, the SAR USA ST45 is an outlier compared to most SAR semi-automatics that are generally 9x19 mm. The gun comes in two color schemes. The first is all matte black. The second couples a stainless steel slide to a matte-black frame and all black components such as the trigger, sights, etc.
The gun is engineered around its 4.5” long barrel. It’s 1.2” wide, 5.8” tall overall and measures 7.8” front to back. The chassis is the gun’s polymer frame that combines European styling with Made in Turkey affordability. That’s right, the SAR USA lineup comes from Turkey. This same polymer (instead of steel) frame keeps weight down to 29.6 ounces, or under two pounds.
There is little subtle about this gun’s styling. The ST45 comes standard with white 3-dot low profile sights dovetailed into the slide. The rear sight is adjustable. The slide has narrow diagonal front and rear serrations. The slide has the rounded corner long rectangular profile devoid of hammer and beavertail that’s characteristic of many striker-fired guns.
The gun has an ambidextrous thumb safety that reveals a red dot when the gun is in fire mode. It also has an ambidextrous flap magazine release as wings at the back of the lower trigger guard behind the trigger. The trigger guard’s front face has impossible to miss deep serrations. The lower trigger guard likewise has a nice little détente where you can choose rest your trigger finger tentatively before pulling all the way.
Under the muzzle is a three-slot Picatinny rail so you can mount various accessories.
Further down, the grip has interchangeable backstraps providing varying palmswells to optimize comfort and recoil mitigation. The grip sides have little raised bumps and the frontstrap and backstrap have horizontal grip bands that are further vertically serrated providing comfortable lateral and vertical traction.
