The Made in USA STI DVC Carry is a 15+1 capacity double-stack 9 mm semi-automatic in a M1911-type package.

STI categorizes its double-stack guns as 2011s instead of 1911s, and indeed, the STI DVC Carry includes several components from its 2011 elite product line. The gun is designed around a 3.9” long copper colored bull profile barrel. The frame is a 2011 aluminum frame with rails inside and a DLC (diamond-like carbon) finish outside.

The grip is a black VIP length 2011 DVC stippled type that reaches up to the slide. The grip texturing is fairly aggressive. It’s an overlapping shell pattern that if you squint just right evokes chainmail. Or a bunch of seashells. It’s also interesting because it goes all the way around the grip instead of just being limited to grip panels.

As interesting as is the grip, the slide is also terrific. The best part of the slide, and maybe of the entire gun, are the double window ports on either side just behind the muzzle and two corresponding ports just behind the front sight. These ports lower muzzle flip, but they also showcase the gorgeous copper color barrel that’s visible through them, at the ejector port and at the muzzle.

The slide has a red fiber optic front sight and a Novak tactical ledge rear sight. Both are dovetailed. The gun has an attractive set of five diagonal rear slide serrations that parallel the forward lean of the grip, the back of the slide, etc.

Key measurements: the barrel is 3.9” long and overall length is 7.57”. The width at the grip is 1.33” while across the thumb safeties, it is 1.49”. Height is 5.12” and weight is 25.9 ounces.

The gun has a serrated hammer loop and a long beavertail. Below them is an elegant grip safety while an ambidextrous thumb safety graces the back.

Moving forward, the muzzle sits almost flush with the muzzle bushing, but, of course, the beautiful color of the barrel is visible here. There is a short twin-slot Picatinny rail under the recoil spring housing.

The trigger is an STI short curve trigger with a 4.5 pound trigger pull. It is a triple-ported crescent trigger with serrations along the face. The trigger guard is squared off, with tactile horizontal serrations along the front face and an undercut at back. Finally, the gun comes with three Gen 2 15-round magazines.

In May 2020, STI changed its name to Staccato and as of late 2019, the DVC Carry has been replaced by newer models. So the STI DVC can’t be purchased any more as a new item, making it an even more compelling acquisition used. Newly renamed Staccato is based in Georgetown, Texas, north of Austin.
