The SAR USA CM9 GEN2 is an affordable, 17+1 capacity 9x19mm hammer-fired polymer frame semi-automatic. This double-action/single-action (DA/SA) pistol features a 3.8” barrel, low profile sights and a crowned barrel for enhanced accuracy. It also has a two-slot Picatinny rail under the muzzle and nice grip contouring that includes finger recesses and cutbacks behind the trigger.
The gun’s width is 1.1”, height is 5.7” and overall length is 7.3”. The gun has a forged alloy steel slide and forged alloy steel barrel. Still, thanks to its polymer frame, the gun only weighs 29.2 ounces. The gun can be had in either CM9 GEN BLACK or CM9 GEN STAINLESS STEEL finishes. The first one is all matte black while the second choice is all matte black except the slide’s stainless steel finish.
The slide has both front and rear has diagonal grip serrations. They slant forward more than usual. This and some of the frame’s diagonal accent lines tag team to give the gun a rakish appearance. The sights are dovetailed 3-white dot types; the back one is adjustable. At back of the frame is a thumb safety (safety lever). Both thumb safety and the slide release are on the left while the magazine release is nicely ambidextrous.
The CM9 has a loaded chamber indicator, hammer block and a firing pin block.
The clean breaking trigger has a scimitar curve. Its parallelogram trigger guard slopes diagonally to echo the grip’s front slope and the slope of the slide serrations. The trigger guard has front serrations and ends with a nice undercut at the frame. At the other end is a medium beavertail to give better control.
The CM9 grip is texturized with fingerprint ridging. This plays nicely with the three good finger recesses and the trio of interchangeable backstraps to configure comfortably to different size hands.
The gun comes with a pair of flush-mounting 17-round double-stack steel magazines.
